How to Calculate Tax on Salary in Pakistan
- Determine the annual taxable salary for the relevant tax year.
- Identify the salary slab in which the annual taxable amount falls.
- Apply the fixed tax from the lower slabs, where applicable.
- Apply the marginal percentage only to the amount exceeding the slab threshold.
- Divide the annual estimate by twelve for a simple monthly withholding estimate.
Taxable Salary vs Gross Salary
A taxable salary calculator should ideally use the amount that is taxable under Pakistan income tax law. Gross remuneration and taxable salary are not always identical because particular benefits, allowances, exemptions or adjustments may receive different treatment.
Where salary structure is complicated, use the calculator as a preliminary estimate and have the final computation checked before relying on it for an FBR return or payroll adjustment.
Salary Income Tax Calculator: What the Result Includes

Monthly tax deduction
Annual estimate divided by twelve for a simple monthly figure.
Net salary after tax
Taxable salary less the estimated salary income tax.
Effective tax rate
Estimated annual tax as a percentage of annual taxable salary.
Applicable marginal slab
The top salary slab reached by the amount entered.
Monthly and annual mode
Use either monthly salary or annual salary without doing the conversion yourself.
Calculator vs Final FBR Income Tax Return
A salary tax calculator answers a narrow question: the estimated tax on a stated salary figure under the salary slabs. A final FBR return can involve additional heads of income, withholding taxes, tax credits, exemptions, assets, liabilities and wealth reconciliation. The calculator should therefore support—not replace—the final tax-return process.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is a salary tax calculator?
A salary tax calculator estimates income tax on salary by applying the relevant progressive tax slabs to the taxable salary entered by the user. This calculator shows estimated annual tax, monthly tax deduction, net salary and the effective tax rate for Tax Year 2027.
Which tax year does this calculator use?
It uses the salaried-person schedule for Tax Year 2027, corresponding to financial year 2026-27 and income earned from 1 July 2026 to 30 June 2027.
Is this an official FBR tax calculator?
No. This is an independent informational tool provided by Advocates of Pakistan. It is not operated by or affiliated with the Federal Board of Revenue and does not replace an FBR return, assessment or professional computation.
Can I calculate tax from my monthly salary?
Yes. Select Monthly Salary and enter the monthly taxable salary. The tool annualises that amount, applies the progressive tax schedule and shows an estimated monthly deduction and annual tax.
Can I enter annual salary instead?
Yes. Select Annual Salary and enter the annual taxable amount directly. The result will show both annual and monthly estimates.
What is the difference between marginal and effective tax rate?
The marginal rate is the rate applied to the top portion of taxable salary within the relevant slab. The effective rate is total estimated tax divided by total taxable salary, so it is normally lower than the marginal rate.
Is gross salary always the same as taxable salary?
Not necessarily. Taxable salary can differ from headline or gross remuneration where the law treats particular benefits, allowances, exemptions or adjustments differently. For a more accurate estimate, the input should reflect taxable salary rather than merely the amount credited to a bank account.
Does the calculator include income from business or property?
No. This page is designed for salary income. Business income, property income, capital gains, investment income and other sources can require different tax treatment and should be computed separately when preparing the final return.
Will my employer deduct exactly the same monthly amount?
Not always. Employer withholding can vary because of bonuses, arrears, changes in salary during the year, exempt components, prior deductions and payroll adjustments. The calculator provides an estimate based on the salary figure entered.
Can Advocates of Pakistan also file my income tax return?
Yes. The calculator is a free informational tool. Taxpayers who require FBR return filing, wealth statement preparation, NTN or Iris assistance, ATL guidance or tax-lawyer support can use the separate Income Tax Return Filing in Pakistan service page.
